Paolo Bellomo
Abstract
Every epoch has its own fads, ideas, literary lenses and translations. The material to be translated changes across decades, centuries, cultural and sometimes national or even regional borders. If you dig a little deeper, you realise that the material in translation is above all a matter of perception. Based on this historical phenomenon, our workshop intends to confront translators with translating paradigms to which they are not used to dealing with. To achieve this, we will create fictional worlds, either invented from scratch or inspired by real cultures and eras, but whose logic and delirium have been pushed to the extreme. The workshop participants will be invited to translate the proposed texts in a different way, to twist their perception to the extreme, by putting them into situations that immerse them in these heterotopias.

Biography
Paolo Bellomo is a bookseller and translator. He grew up in Bari, Italy, juggling between the dialect and Italian of that city. In France since 2011, he questioned the discourses of translation with a thesis in comparative literature and continues to do so by translating theatreplays (Emma Dante, Antonio Moresco, Pauline Peyrade), novels (Célia Houdart, Antonio Robecchi, Charles Duchaussois), old authors (Pierre Loti, Joris-Karl Huysmans, Guy de Maupassant) and poetry (Patrizia Valduga), most of the time accompanied by one or more co-translators. Since 2021 he has been a member of Outranspo (Ouvroir de translation potencial). In his spare time and with great pleasure he writes song lyrics.
